If you have lived above Sunset for more than a season or two, you already know the shape of a Bel Air August. Cars thin out on Stone Canyon by dusk, the coyotes get bolder near Roscomare, and the only real question most weekends is whether to drive down the hill or stay on it.
This summer, though, the cultural map has quietly narrowed to a short axis. Almost everything worth planning around sits on a two-mile arc between the Glen Centre at Mulholland and the Getty ridge above the 405. What is actually changing at the Glen Centre
The Glen Centre has been the neighborhood's daily-needs anchor for so long that most residents have stopped noticing when the tenant mix shifts. It is shifting now. If you have kids on the Roscomare corridor, that matters. The Glen Centre's Sunday farmers market, in place since 2001, is one of the few reasons the parking lot fills before ten on a weekend, and a fast-casual option next door reshapes what a post-market Sunday actually looks like.
Hotel Bel-Air's sculpture year
Stone Canyon Road has quietly become a walkable art destination this summer, if you count a slow amble past the swans as walking. At the legendary hideaway, 'Monumental: Conversations with Space' presents a selection of sculptures that recall the interplay between architecture and landscape, exploring how space and form define one another. The exhibition launched June 19, 2026, and is offered complimentary and open to the public.
That last detail is the one most neighbors miss. You do not need a dinner reservation at Wolfgang Puck to walk the grounds and see the work. For anyone with out-of-town guests coming through in August, it is the shortest possible field trip: park on Stone Canyon, walk the property, be back in Bel Air Glen inside an hour.
The programming was designed by London-based art curator Lily Ackerman of Ackerman Studios in collaboration with CURA Art, extending Dorchester Collection's longstanding relationship with Ackerman, who has overseen the art exhibition schedule at 45 Park Lane since 2017. The point is not the pedigree. The point is that the property is now running a curated schedule rather than a one-off display, which means the sculpture you see in July is not necessarily the sculpture your guests see in October.
The Getty as your unofficial backyard
Every Bel Air resident has a private answer to the question of whether the Getty counts as neighborhood or destination. It is a four-minute drive from the East Gate and a forty-minute crawl from Beverly Glen on a Saturday afternoon. Summer resolves the argument in favor of the locals who are willing to go after dinner.
The free outdoor Off the 405 concerts at the Getty Center include aja monet on May 30, Hunx and His Punx on June 13, Leenalchi on July 11, Horse Lords on July 25, and Laurel Halo on August 22.
